The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger Regarding Size Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Response
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a different size category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and manually change the size where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Changes
Earlier, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Experiences
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
