The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate 51M viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American average reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
